GOLD.FACED.BETTY

Styled: Pastel Blue

Posted in Fashion, Retail, Shopping by goldfacedbetty on March 16, 2012

Hopping on the coloured denim wagon, I recently added a pair of Zara pastel turquoise jeans to my wardrobe. I wish I had scooped up another pair, or two, because they are definitely a piece that is soon to be deemed a spring/summer go-to. Adding to my pastel blue collection I also picked up a perfect sleeveless blouse from H&M (which unfortunately is not online), this time I chose blue and black, to keep myself well-stocked.

Something about pastels is so easy, especially blue — pairing it with denim is just too simple. With many shades available in pastel hues, I’m loving the brighter Madewell lace bra below. China Glaze in Audrey fits perfectly with this colour wheel, and another great option is Zoya in Bevin, which has painted my tips all week long.

Styled: Blue & Green

Posted in Fashion by goldfacedbetty on March 6, 2012

Blue and green should never be seen unless they’re in the washing machine. This saying used to scare me back in grade 8, always wondering if jeans were considered blue and whether or not I should risk wearing a green top with denim. Oh the juvenile things you’ll believe. Even if that were true, isn’t it much more fun living your life by doing what others don’t?

These bold primary colours perfectly suit one another. If they are placed beside eachother in a rainbow they can’t not look good together, right? In my love for ankle boots, please examine below — Opening Ceremony has designed a perfect suede booty, and the curved heel is what makes the Western style just kill it.

  1. BaubleBar, Atari Glam Cuff – $36
  2. StyleMint, Venice – $29.99
  3. Opening Ceremony, Coachella Suede Ankle Boot – $489
  4. Nobody, Skinny Jean -$285
  5. Essie in Pretty Edgy and Mezmerised
  6. Marc by Marc Jacobs, Top Handle Satchel – $698

Nasty Gal x MinkPink

Posted in Fashion by goldfacedbetty on February 25, 2012

It’s always exciting when two brands you love come together to create a fashion fetus that can only be undeniably fabulous, you know like the destiny of B.I.C.‘s future. Quite similar indeed. Come mid-March the California retailer, Nasty Gal, and Australian brand, MinkPink, will release their capsule collection, staying true to each’s style, which compliment one another oh so well.

Obsessee

Modeled by Hyoni Kang the collection is for all the cool kids who love the obnoxiously delicious prints, brights and dip-dye hair. Best yet, pieces start at only $38.

Lookbook faves: bold brows, dip dye tips, and that green tutu is a must!

Bauble Bable

Posted in Accessories, Things I Like by goldfacedbetty on February 15, 2012

Over the last year arms, necks, and fingers alike have been drenched in baubles more so than I can ever remember. Apart from jelly bracelet craze, which I never really got into, our wrists have never been so accessorized. With arm parties no longer limited to just the weekend, there’s no reason not to layer on the bracelets and for that matter necklaces and rings.

I was really excited to recently find BaubleBar, a website providing everything for your fashion jewelry needs. This online accessories site makes it easy to build your perfect jewelry box. BaubleBar features many different designs for all tastes — many pieces are a great alternative to high end designer accessories, at an affordable price.

BaubleBar: Twist Pastel Bracelet Trio, Black Animal Print Bangle, Crystal Stretch Cuff

BaubleBar: Tiered Rock Necklace, Phospho Necklace

My favourite aspect of Spring 2012 is the incorporation of neon in accessories. As Brad Goreski would say it’s the perfect P.O.C. (pop of colour). The Phospho Necklace (now available for pre-sale) is my favourite piece at BaubleBar, and I only imagine that it will look one hundred times better with a tan and a little sunshine.

Another great feature on BaubleBar is the Style Me For option where you can select work/night/day, with styling advice for each based on the jewelry piece.

Ms. Green Jeans

Posted in Fashion by goldfacedbetty on January 25, 2012

I can always remember when I was younger visiting the Toronto Eaton Centre — the almighty of malls, being from Ottawa — and my sister and I begging my parents to bring us to Mr. Green Jeans for lunch. I don’t even remember if the food was good, but in my twisted child mind I think I believed that my mom used to serve there when she first studied fashion at George Brown (then located in Kensington and now the Kensington Market Lofts). Of course, she didn’t actually waitress there, but that’s all besides the point now.

Coloured denim, where do I begin. Last spring/summer/fall it was all a see of red, but now the denim has run free from it’s ruby roots and is turning to a more diverse palette. These Rag & Bone denim skinnies combine but two loves, colour and zippers. Moving into the warmer months of spring I’ll be opting for a more colourful wardrobe, leaving my shades of grey behind, for the most part. Let’s style this deep green jeans two ways and prep for the better months of the year. And don’t forget, this spring no outfit is complete without neon, duh!

  1. Monki Lindy Blouse
  2. Proenza Schouler Evening Clutch
  3. Charlotte Bling Mesh Cuff & Phillipe Audibert Amelia Spike Bracelet
  4. Kate Spade Necklace
  5. Acne Black Cypress Ankle Boot
  6. Rag & Bone Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans
  7. Old Navy Waffle-Knit Sweater
  8. Ettika Vintage Ribbon Tennis BraceletMarcia Moran Turquoise Wrapped Bracelet
  9. Prada Grey Leather Craquele Tote

Fashion Friday Roundup

Posted in Fashion Friday by goldfacedbetty on January 20, 2012

If your first modeling gig is as the face of Young Versace at the age of 10, I’m pretty certain we all know what your future will entail. Not only does this fact pretty much solidify your runway reigning, but with the minor detail of having Cindy Crawford to call your mama we suppose gives you a little more street cred. Enter supermodel offspring extraordinaire, Kaia.

(fashion foie gras)

Cindy herself was a muse of Gianni, so in some ways it’s only natural that her daughtes continues this leggy legacy. Crawford was on set during the shoot with Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, saying, “I’m so thrilled that Kaia was chosen to be part of the first Young Versace Campaign. I have so many fond memories of the times I spent with Gianni and Donatella. There is something so very special about the House of Versace. Being on-set with my daughter watching her in front of the camera was a fantastic experience. I am so proud of her.”

One of my new year’s goals (I opted for goals à la lululemon style, setting a date and talking in the present) is to read more, and more for me is 6 books in 2012. I’m a fairly slow reader and really need to love the book to get through every page. The first book of the year I’ve taken on is the widely acclaimed, soon to be in theatres Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I’m sure you’ve all heard about it. Well in most recent Hunger Games news, one of our fave polish brands have come out with a collection influenced by the novel. The Colours From the Capitol collectios features 12 colours, each for a district of Panem. With Katniss’ home district represented by Smoke and Ashes, symbolizing the mining district.

Dress Me Up – District 8 (textiles)                               Argo – Distrct 11 (agriculture)

Foie Gras – District 10 (livestock)                               Mahogany Magic – District 7 (lumber)

Fast Track – District 6 (transportation)                       Harvest Moon – District 9 (grain)

Hook and Line – District 4 (fishing)                             Riveting – District 3 (technology)

Stone Cold – District 2 (masonry)                               Electrify – District 5 (power)

Smoke and Ashes – District 12 (mining)                     Luxe and Lush – District 1 (luxury)

If you’re a denim hound like some people who write this blog, then you’ll be pleased to know that Madewell has got a new denim line coming to a dude ranch near you (but really just look online). Rivet & Thread is the brands most recent endeavor, that took their design team on a 2000 mile adventure to the Wild Wild West. Although we’re having a not-so-secret admiration for the overalls, an easy target are the two denim shirts. Get your blue jean fix January 24th, online or in store!

Party Party

Posted in Entertainment, Fashion, Toronto by goldfacedbetty on June 17, 2011

Last night we attended two Much Music Video pre-parties, including the opening of GUESS flagship store on Queen St. and the H&M Dragonette pre-party.

The GUESS & Flare Magazine event included a performance by Keshia Chanté, who celebrated her 23rd birthday yesterday, dj-ing by Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning and a photobooth!

We attended with Rachel of Hiccups of Style. We all look pretty nerdy in this photobooth picture. GFB also FINALLY had a chance to meet Amanda of Not A Model!

After Keshia’s performance, and some delicious raspberry macarons, we went across the street to H&M for their MMVA pre-party featuring Dragonette. Not only did we love Fire in Your New Shoes, but now we’re putting Dragonette at the top of our playlist. After the performance we had the chance to sip some beers and shop, which may not be the best combination, but is always fun!

Fashion Friday: Long Weekend

Posted in Fashion Friday by goldfacedbetty on May 20, 2011

For Canadians, Victoria Day/May 2-4/May Long Weekend marks the end of winter and the beginning of summer. And while May Long Weekend is notorious for crappy weather, it is what happens after this weekend that is most important. Pack away your parkas and dust off your sandals, summer is near! In an ideal world, where it was 25 and sunny straight through to Monday, this weekend we would be sporting different variations of the above outfit.

A nautical-inspired cropped top paired with super short cut offs and metallic boat shoes is the perfect combination for riding bikes on the island or hanging out in Trinity Bellwoods. Accessorize with a pair of oversize cat-eye sunglasses, and embrace the neon trend with with a super bright bracelet. Don’t forget to charge your phone before you head out for the day, you’ll want to stay connected with friends to make plans to meet up on a patio in the afternoon. Oh, and, one last thing. If the sun does appear, protect yourself from those UV rays by applying sunscreen. No one wants to start off summer with a burn!

1. Tom Ford Nikita sunglasses: $400, available here.
2. Wilfred Simone Breton stripe T-Shirt: $50, available here.
3. Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q backpack: $458, available here.
4. Lauren Elan Misel friendship bracelet: $22, available here.
5. One Teaspoon Original Bonita shorts: $64 available here.

7. Sperry metallic boat shoe: $85, available here.
8. Philosophy Shelter SPF 30 sunblock: $25, available here.

Whatever you do this weekend, be safe!

sh-sh-shorty

Hey shorty, do a little dance.

Just posted this on NOTED BY GFB, but because we LOVE Aritzia, I had to post it again here. It’s cute. Who knew jean shorties were so talented!

hey shorty

Posted in Fashion, Shopping by goldfacedbetty on May 17, 2011

It’s no surprise that we like short-shorts. I’m sure it’s been expressed many times, the shorter the better, unless it’s a maxi skirt. Well on a quest to complete my wardrobe (although it’s never really complete is it?) with coloured denim I came across a great buy.

These Forever 21 cuffed denim cut-off shorts are only $11 (on sale from $12.50).  Can’t wait to take these shorties to the island, park and patio once the sun decides to stay.  Time to cross your fingers and hope to see me prancing around in these babies soon.
