Dear boys…men (whatever), you have the heart of a lumberjack (outdoorsman), but the big city area code. Well the cottage chic look, as requested, is the perfect style to get you through the winter.
For tops focus on thick knits. For me, a cowichan is almost the definition of the cottage sweater. Plaid is obviously a given, flannel for a cozier feel, or cotton for a sleeker look. Since demin was and is so popular this year I figure why not throw this into the cottage chic look too!?
Although you might imagine a cottage pant as a beat up cargo, I’m gonna go ahead and say that a slim-fit khaki or slightly worn out cord is much more appropriate for you city slickers trying to give off the ruffing-it style. Go for a leather boot that resembles more of a desert boot, or an authentic hiking boot. Take a chance with the shoes, I mean if Sorels came back in style, pretty much anything is worth a try.
Having lived in Whistler, I can’t say anything about outerwear accessories, without saying purchase a slouchy toque. For a warmer more up-North style, go for the fur-lined hat, ear-flaps and all. Scarves are sometimes a touchy subject with boys. Let’s just say it looks way better than a neck warmer or balaclava AND it’s +5 points in any girl’s book. Of course the typical go-to for a cottage style is a parka, but if you want to try out this season’s must have jacket, go for a leather/shearling.
Baby, it’s cold outside. It’s time to cuddle up with your cable-knit clad hunk and sip a mug of chocolate-chai tea.
In case you didn’t know this is actually all for the boys, these are the perfect sweaters to keep you warm and stylin’ throughout the chilly months.
Apparently a red jacket with some zippers isn’t the only thing that Drake needs.
OVO (October’s Very Own) is the creative collective from Oliver El-Khatib, Noah “40″ Shebib and Drake. OVO is the hub all of Drake’s projects are named under, including the recent Canada Goose partnership. Canada Goose parkas have been the winter jacket of choice for Toronto born rapper. OVO prides themselves on recognizing the best, so I guess Canada Goose really is the best they’ve ever had since it has led to one of the most Canadian collaborations as of late.
The updated Chilliwack style takes inspiration from the US N-3B Aircrew Heavy Zone jackets, with heavy nylon twill satin and coyote fur trim. Creative director, El-Khatib, says he wants to see the bomber style parka worn with raw denim, moccasins, a cashmere tee or a wool shirt, and a baseball cap. I guess they have the target market’s style almost dead on if we’re looking to see the jacket worn by 20-something, young, hip, professional Torontonians. The jackets will be sold for $900 a pop, with only 300 being made. Toronto boys, order them online at Nomad. Get them while they’re hot, and before it gets too chilly!
The way to my heart is through plaid. Honestly, if you wear a plaid shirt that’s +100 points in my books, and for some reason you just seem that much more attractive. I think it’s a disease. I am a strong believer that you can never have too much plaid, especially if you’re a boy.
This week Philip Sparks has finally introduced his much anticipated women’s collection for Spring 2011, and I must say it’s pretty lovely. The looks are tailored, with a menswear inspiration, but still very feminine. And YES there is plaid for both men and women in this collection!
So boys and girls, get ready for the collection, and remember as long as you’re wearing plaid (especially Sparks’ plaid) you’re ok in my books.
In an odd but perfectly timed fashion, Adidas Originals has come out with a line of Star Wars themed merch and has created a commercial to incorporate the collection AND the upcoming World Cup. The commercial spot features Snoop Dogg, David Beckham, Daft Punk, Jay from Popular Mechanics for Kids, and Noel Gallagher (who, by the way, does not get attacked a la Toronto Virgin Fest circa 2008). Above is a peak at the pieces and below is the commercial. Only three days and two hours until the 2010 World Cup!
The Sonnets are a Swedish band who combine fashion and synth pop style, using this year’s spring must-haves! Sebastian Said is another song that pairs perfectly with the recent summer weather. These boys are both good for the eyes and ears, and what makes them even more special?
