Wish List: Sweat with Swagger

with one comment

Yes, the words “I don’t like to sweat” have left my lips more than once, but that’s not to say I don’t enjoy working out.

Living in the city, cardio is in my daily commute — a pedestrian’s work is never done. While this might not constitute your idea of a workout, consider that by 8:30 am, as I step into the office, I’ve already completed 15 minutes of Olympic speed walking (I’m fast, folks). I strongly encourage anyone who chooses a seat behind the wheel, to opt for a stroll instead of a quick around-the-corner drive to pick up your non-fat, half-sweet, hazelnut, soy latte.

When it’s a little too chilly for a walk, I will choose to slip into these stylin’ pieces and make my way to the studio for a few downward dogs and some saluting to the sun.

Sweat in Style

1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Note: Hidden wedge Nike sneakers and Brooklyn Nets hat are likely not welcome on the mat — use for commuting purposes only.

These Three Things

leave a comment »

In the course of a week/day/hour, I collect too many images on my desktop to count. Some are inspiration, just pretty picture, or things I want in my life, does that list really ever end?

((been thinking about going a darker blonde forever – this is it, via))

((the geometrics in this skirt + the neon are a must, via))

((a grey wooly bed frame is both modern and cozy, via))

Bauble Bable

leave a comment »

Over the last year arms, necks, and fingers alike have been drenched in baubles more so than I can ever remember. Apart from jelly bracelet craze, which I never really got into, our wrists have never been so accessorized. With arm parties no longer limited to just the weekend, there’s no reason not to layer on the bracelets and for that matter necklaces and rings.

I was really excited to recently find BaubleBar, a website providing everything for your fashion jewelry needs. This online accessories site makes it easy to build your perfect jewelry box. BaubleBar features many different designs for all tastes — many pieces are a great alternative to high end designer accessories, at an affordable price.

BaubleBar: Twist Pastel Bracelet Trio, Black Animal Print Bangle, Crystal Stretch Cuff

BaubleBar: Tiered Rock Necklace, Phospho Necklace

My favourite aspect of Spring 2012 is the incorporation of neon in accessories. As Brad Goreski would say it’s the perfect P.O.C. (pop of colour). The Phospho Necklace (now available for pre-sale) is my favourite piece at BaubleBar, and I only imagine that it will look one hundred times better with a tan and a little sunshine.

Another great feature on BaubleBar is the Style Me For option where you can select work/night/day, with styling advice for each based on the jewelry piece.

chi-town

I forgot to mention, I went to Chicago in April.  The city definitely lives up to it’s title, our umbrellas had multiple near death experiences in the Windy City.  Chicago has always been a city I’ve wanted to visit and so I can now check this one off my bucket list (which does not currently exist). Chicago is actually quite similar Toronto, other than the beautiful architecture.  And so here is a brief photo diary of our adventures.

Loved the Bean (the Cloud Gate) in Millenium Park.  Toronto needs something like this.

Not deep dish, but best pizza I’ve ever had, worth the wait Piece Pizza. Love the logo.

Fried chicken & waffles at The Red Canary.

Oh ya we also got BOTTOMLESS mimosas for $18.  Best idea ever.

Wrigley Field, home of the Cubs.

We also went up the Sears Tower, which was a huge let down (maybe because it was raining).  Who wants to see 4 states anyways?!  Not even worth the $17, next time more mimosas.  I’ll stick with the CN Tower.

Some other honourable mentions: Delilah’s – $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon (on Wednesdays, $3 otherwise) & $2 whiskey shots.  HUB51 – waited 3 days to get a reservation, but the fish tacos were the tits (I Love You Man, anyone?).  Rockit Bar & Grill – delicious burgers.

Despite the rain the city was in full Playoff mode (Bulls & Blackhawks), so there was always something going on.  Our last day we shopped, and unfortunately & surprisingly for me, I only bought 2 nail lacquers and a pair of sunglasses from H&M, lame I know. Later we stopped by House of Blues where a local blues band was playing.  Can’t get enough of the blues.

Though there were no Oprah, Lupe or Kanye hangouts, I’m quite fond of Chicago, and like I had predicted I could totally see myself living amongst the wind.

(b)earth day.

with 2 comments

Happy (b)Earth day to all!  I know many are already in the “go green” mode, but I thought I would share some things I do to help the environment.  I’m sure others do much more, but you do what you can.

MY CONTRIBUTION: recycle. shop with reusable bags. walk not drive. bike not drive. use minimal heating. no bottled water (or pop for that matter). compost at my childhood home (it’s hard in a condo). turn off the lights. hang-dry most clothes. use organic products as much as possible.

My goal is to have a much larger contribution to help the earth one year from now. I will try my best.

Keeping with the green theme, I also recently purchased butter LONDON nail lacquer while in Chicago. The colour is “Yummy Mummy” and all over the blogosphere people are saying it’s the perfect neutral.  I agree.

life as a house

with one comment

Something about spring just gets me in the house-hunting, decor mood.  I’m not sure if it’s because my lease is typically coming to an end around this time, but this morning I scoured the internet for apartments.  There are still 3 months left in my lease.  I’ll just say I’m a go-getter.

Although my home decor is fairly non-existent, being just out of school with no real property to call a home, I can’t help but imagine how I will style my humble abode.  And believe me it will have to be humble considering the prices this city.  Elle Decor features a look inside Jessica Stam’s NY apartment, and let me tell you it’s nothing short of amazing.  Purple being my fave colour only make the designs, by Rafael de Cárdenas, even more perfect for my taste.  I also love the use of wallpapers and vintage inspired furniture pieces.

I’ve started a collection of decor ideas on Pinterest (an online categorized bulletin board, much more space friendly for those with limited square footage).  Follow my pins and share yours, and we can all become a little more inspired.

la-la-love day

leave a comment »

Cupid here. Happy Valentine’s Day!  I hope you’re spending your day and evening with people who truly make you happy.  I’m not really a cynic, so don’t worry I’m not going to pull a Kanye and hate on this Hallmark holiday.  But let me just say, I hope that this isn’t the only day you let your favourite people know how much you appreciate them.

Last Valentine’s Day, I spent the Sunday baking & cooking, awaiting Kayla and Allessia’s arrival, so we could indulge in all things pink and lovely.  Later we went to see Valentine’s Day (typical, yes).  Today was once again spent with a best friend, and GFB’s k to the m.  So yes, I/we have been single, and even though we complain and make up fake stories about our fake boyfriends, it’s ok.  Sometimes the best company is friends anyways.  Let’s be honest, you always want what you can’t have.  And hey, sometimes you get it and it ain’t so dandy.  So let’s just say, you get what you need in the end, and for me it’s been time with friends.

On that note, this one goes out to all the lovers: Bon Iver – Skinny Love

infinite poolside possibilities

leave a comment »

M&K are moving into a new place this coming week, it’s our Barbie Dream Home, and it comes with an infinity pool, hot tub, cabanas and whatnot.  But let me tell you our infinity pool’s got nothin’ on The Marina Bay Sands Hotel infinity pool.  Those Singapore Barbie’s are just livin’ the life in their dream hotel!

This infinity pool measures 150 meters long (3 Olympic size swimming pools) and is atop 2560 hotel rooms.
