Nickn Minaj is featured in Vogue’s True Colors, and literally showing some colors, the music icon dons sea green/turquoise skin and her classic pink hair. Though some may be skeptical, I think this photo of Nicki is great, each color complementing the other. Inside the article, Minaj talks more about her day-to-day life and what she’d be doing if she wasn’t in the spotlight.

Yes, yes, I know it’s Tuesday, but let’s just pretend it’s Monday again, because it was a holiday after all. I visited Ottawa this weekend, it was nice to relax at home and enjoy my mom’s home cooking. My weekend mostly consisted on this amazing new pink polish, and a whole lot of Nicki Minaj, mostly in form of Sophia Grace and Rosie.

I’m not sure how one girl can own so many pink nail polishes, but somehow my collection has grown exponentially. The newest addition is OPI Pink Friday, part of Nicki Minaj’s lacquer line. I love how muted and frosty this pink is, I can’t wait to wear it with a summer tan.

Over the last year arms, necks, and fingers alike have been drenched in baubles more so than I can ever remember. Apart from jelly bracelet craze, which I never really got into, our wrists have never been so accessorized. My favourite aspect of Spring 2012 is the incorporation of neon in accessories. As Brad Goreski would say it’s the perfect P.O.C. (pop of colour). I’m not really sure how I feel about Valentine’s Day, to be honest. While I obviously love receiving flowers and treating myself to sweets sometimes the activities surrounding the day are a little over the top. I think the best way of thinking about Valentine’s Day is by remembering to acknowledge all the amazing people in your life.

Since the person who most suites this Hallmark holiday is away on a work trip I have mostly penciled in plans of seeing The Vow with a friend and baking some treats for the drive home for the upcoming long weekend (yes Family Day!). But in the meantime I spent last night attempting to paint hearts on my nails with a bobby pin. As evidenced below, art was never my strong suit, but they also never had a nail painting class in middle school.

Initially I used OPI Suzi Takes the Wheel with a matte dark pink from Boat House (left picture, right hand). On second attempt I used Sally Hansen 6409-02 Nasturtium with the same matte pink, applying with a bobby pin. Yes, I am wearing two different polish colours, but it’s ok, it’s Valentine’s Day!

Manicure Monday: A Modern Classic

This week I put a modern twist on the classic red nail. The grown-out mani is quick and easy. I used Revlon Red and base/top coat of choice — Seche Vite for me. This classic red from Revlon is my favourite, I also love the consistency of Revlon’s polishes and the feel of the brush, which is pretty important for polish-aholics. I’ve been on the search for Revlon’s new ColorStay in Mandarin and Bonsai, but it has unfortunately been stocked far and few around select pharmacies.

To create this design I used the regular polish brush and blotted a large dollop in the middle or my nail, curving the paint up from to each corner tip of my nail.

I originally saw this design on Refinery29, and since I love red thought this was the perfect alternative. Other classic hues would also look great, try black, pink and nude.

Polish Party

Do polish parties exist? What a better way to spend an afternoon/evening than painting nails with friends and enjoying tea, or a few libations (mimosas anyone?) and treats. Each guest would bring two colours from their own lacquer collection and let the swapping begin. Of course the only thing to make this get together even better is to have mini cupcakes to match each polish colour. Check out the cute cupcakes at the Chanel nail polish workshop.

Manicure Monday: Black & Blue

On Friday I quickly painted my nails with the original plan being to paint black tips, but after a major french tip fail, I decided to quickly fix them up by painting almost half black and the other half blue. Although I’m finding the colours a little childish for my liking, I have received many compliments on my nails, and find the design slightly mod. Next time I’m taking a cue from the cashier at Aritzia and will paint the bottom quarter a gold and the rest a jewel green.

Waffles & Silk

Waffle sweaters are so comforting, maybe it’s my love of eating waffle that makes wearing this fabric so much better. Last week I posted this Old Navy waffle sweater, and soon after purchased it online for only $15. A price like that I had to buy two colours of course! I’ve never been a huge fan of Old Navy, the commercials are you like you’re annoying kid sister, but this waffled piece could not be left behind. I was even more pleased when my purchase arrived one day later. Because this waffle knit is cotton and slightly cropped, it’s very lightweight and it perfect for layering in almost any season.

Manicure Monday: White Out

I went through a white nail phase when I was younger, after I first got this nail colour (Powder Puff by CoverGirl) from my grandma. It seemed to be the perfect colour for summer especially with a tan. I feel like white is slowly making it’s comeback. Typically seen as tacky, I think this somewhat off-white is the one to shine. With spring I think I’ll be adding orange tips or half orange, half-white, as inspired by my bedspread and these two new bracelets from Forever 21.

And look, even Audrey of Frassy is doing it. Though I think the white white is a little too “I got bored in math class and painted my nails with Wite-Out,” there’s something so mod about this shade, don’t you think?

Ms. Green Jeans

I can always remember when I was younger visiting the Toronto Eaton Centre — the almighty of malls, being from Ottawa — and my sister and I begging my parents to bring us to Mr. Green Jeans for lunch. I don’t even remember if the food was good, but in my twisted child mind I think I believed that my mom used to serve there when she first studied fashion at George Brown (then located in Kensington and now the Kensington Market Lofts). Of course, she didn’t actually waitress there, but that’s all besides the point now.

Coloured denim, where do I begin. Last spring/summer/fall it was all a see of red, but now the denim has run free from it’s ruby roots and is turning to a more diverse palette. These Rag & Bone denim skinnies combine but two loves, colour and zippers. Moving into the warmer months of spring I’ll be opting for a more colourful wardrobe, leaving my shades of grey behind, for the most part. Let’s style this deep green jeans two ways and prep for the better months of the year. And don’t forget, this spring no outfit is complete without neon, duh!
