Philip Sparks – let’s go fishing!
Philip Sparks is a Toronto based menswear designer. Having just showed his 7th collection, two weeks prior to LG Fashion Week, we think it’s more than appropriate to give everyone else a little taste of this designer. Sparks’ designs are recognized for the heirloom tailoring techniques, creating classic but modern looks. The last two seasons have circled around the theme of, what I will call, “let’s go fishing.” Spring ’10 is inspired by cottage life and the 1950′s Canadian Pacific Railway gateway ads, where as Fall ’10 takes inspiration from the classic novel Moby Dick. Both have nautical themes and can be incorporated into the spring must-haves for men and new styles of the season.

Park Life for Aritzia – Vancouver 2010 Merch

As Olympic fanatic as I am, the only merch I owned up until this afternoon was a pair of the famous red mittens. But after receiving the above email in my inbox, I knew I should take one last look at what Aritzia had to offer. Glad I did. There was a lot of selection and the markdowns were decent. In the end, I purchased the above for a little over the same price as one of the hoodies from the Bay.
While there is no denying that the Bay did a wonderful job on the merchandise this year, something has to be said for the versatile and understated looks that Park Life produced. While I would hesitate to wear a hoody with a giant “Canada” applique across the chest after the Olympics, I would have no qualms about wearing any of these three pieces after the Olympics.
I am now officially ready for gold medal curling and hockey. Go Canada, Go!

NYFW – 5

day 5 was a good day! we saw lots of fur and muted colours from some of the top designers. Marc Jacobs started his show promptly on time and as promised no celebrities were in the front row to bore anyone.
