Tavi for @BarneysNY

Posted in People I Like, Retail by goldfacedbetty on September 8, 2010

Tavi Gevinson.

Style Rookie.

Some love her, some hate her.  I have been very impartial, but I did enjoy this very casual and random interview with Simon Doonan.  Tavi will be the guest tweeter for Barneys New York during Fashion’s Night Out.  I’m actually pretty excited to read her tweets and see her opinion.  So yes, she may be only 13 years old, but I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt and will believe no matter what everyone has something to say.  Read what Tavi has to say here and tell us what you think!

“If you want to blow somebody’s brains out, buy them a gorgerous gift from Barneys”

Posted in Marketing, Retail, Things I Like by goldfacedbetty on December 10, 2009

Although I just posted that video of Simon Doonan a mere twelve hours ago, I could not withhold this one for much longer.

Barneys New York’s online marketing campaign for the 2009 Holiday season is remarkable. They have flawlessly linked Simon Doonan, Youtube, and their E-commerce website to promote their store and merchandise online. Without a “face” it is difficult for retailers to effectively use Youtube as a means of marketing. Lucky for Barneys, they have Simon.

After watching this video, not only do I want a gorgeous gift from Barneys, I also want Simon Doonan to be my co-worker.

This one’s for you Annie, have a witty holiday!

“What kind of neurotic, exhibitionist psychopathology made me choose a career cavorting around arranging merchandise and props in full view of the rest of humanity?”

Simon Doonan, the mastermind behind Barney’s window displays, can be seen in this video impersonating Tracy Morgan from SNL. He also offers some career advice for the unemployed and reminds viewers to be themselves, unless they are awful and in that case don’t. Hilarious.
