There’s no better way to celebrate summer than with a big ol’ slice of melon. I could eat watermelon all day until the seeds I’ve ingested begin to sprout and take over my body and this blog. But really, the best thing about summer is to make use of your brights. Don’t be afraid to mix and match summer hues, and update the classic French manicure.
To create a watermelon design, choose a medium pink for the base, like Essie Secret Story. Once the base colour is completely dry, place on French manicure strips and paint your tip colour on. For best results, with the most straight edges, I find it best to remove the strips immediately after applying the polish. I alternated using Zoya Arizona and Wednesday (used for watermelon rind).
Create the watermelon seeds using a toothpick dipped in black polish — alternate the size of the dots by blotting the toothpick on a piece of paper.
This year summer is all about the brights, neons, and glow in the dark? No not really, but I did hear about some actual glow in the dark jeans. The inspiration for this outfit came from the lovely Dolce Vita magenta loafers. You might not think they match with the outfit, but I’m pretty sure this pink on pink is stellar. Lately, I’ve been inspired from the bottom up, so here we go.
Continuing from the toes up, Elson pink denim skinny’s are organic and are on point with the colourful denim trend happening now. We will always love the low armhole tank (this season cropped & BRIGHT from Damir Doma) layered over a TopShop lacy bra. Don’t forget to top off your look with a straw fedora, the newest Mulberry Taylor Satchel, which was recently launched during Coachella, and a handful of chunky rings.
And there you have it, find me this summer cruising around the city in pink on pink.
This summer why not brighten up your typical beauty routine with a rainbow coloured makeup bag! Instead of 80s blue eyeshadow, think lipstick of all colours (orange, purple, hot pink). If you’re more of a wallflower and don’t think you can pull off these statement lips, try dressing up your fingertips in polish of any shade (yellow, neons, blue).
And hey, do you remember when you used to colour your hair with kool-aid or a highlighter when bored in middle school? Well this look is also back. Go for a tie-dyed look by colouring just the tips of your hair. This may be easier or create stronger statement for blondes, but can work with any hair colour. Just remember to use a semi-permanent dye, like Manic Panic, that will wash out in a couple of days. Also this look may not be very office appropriate, so if you’ll be spending the majority of your summer in a cubicle and not in a cabana (like me!), maybe try it out for the weekend.
