Girls: Just Bee

Beyonce

Queen B does it again. I’m fairly certain when I am reborn I will be the modern day version of Beyoncé, or I’m actually comfortable saying that I’d quite enjoy coming back as old lady Bee. We all know she’ll be just as fierce, and I’m certain that Blue Ivy will be pampering her mother prepping to take over Jay and B’s throne.

Beyoncé truly is quite the inspiration – sticking around through the years and staying relevant. Having Jay-Z on her side makes the pair possibly the most dreamy twosome ever. Miss Bee is the first of GFB’s newest weekly feature, Girls, where I will spotlight the girls of our time.

the wedding

leave a comment »

The Royal Wedding has finally come and gone.  No, I did not wake up at 4 am. I originally had every intention of doing so, but figured the internet, social networking sites and television broadcasts would keep me up to date at a reasonable hour.  Of course these sources did not fail.  It’s a weird thing to imagine having your entire wedding broadcasted and scrutinized online moment by moment.  So let’s get to it then…

THE DRESS: Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

This McQueen, fit for a future Queen, is such a classic dress, which I think completely suits Kate’s style.  Although she has already been deemed a style icon, working for a High Street fashion designer, I think her style is much more simple and classic, and less edgy and trendy.  This dress fits her style perfectly.  I only wish it was a little more modern, less sleeve and less ballgown, but I’m more of a fit-n-flare (Say Yes To The Dress anyone?) kind of girl.  Overall I think it’s perfectly paired for the traditional Royal Wedding agenda.

Another note, would be a bigger more vibrant bouquet.  I found it looking a bit wilted and more so camouflaged with the dress.  But then again the styling of the wedding was rather non-existent.

I’m sure the reception is bound to be much more exciting.  Ellie Goulding will be performing, as requested by Prince William, as she is the Royal couples favourite artist.  I also heard that Jay-Z & Beyonce were asked to perform “Bonnie & Clyde.”  Can you imagine Wills, Charles and Queen Elizabeth throwing their diamonds up!? Just outrageous (in my dreams this would happen), hears hoping.

best celeb friends forever

Did you know they besties? Well they are. They’ve wined, dined, concert-ed and partied together.

Remember last week when I wrote about Jay-Z’s new website (Life & Times)?  Well little Gleek-wannabe Wynnie was just as impressed as we were, and so she took it upon herself to ask Mr. Carter for an interview.  Jay showed her his and Gwyneth showed him hers.

HOVA gets to the WWW

leave a comment »

Yesterday Jay-Z launched a personal website, it’s about time right?  lifeandtimes.com includes features on art & design, culture, music, fashion, etc. along with a page specifically from Jay (titled ‘Jay’s').   Most posts are written by authors other than Jay-Z himself, with Jay’s section currently only displaying one post.  Under ‘About’ holds one quote by rapper/businessman, “I want to make extraordinary, ordinary.”

We always knew he had a passion for art, culture, and the related, so we’re happy he’s finally taken it to the online world, where all ordinary can bathe in his extraordinary world.  Don’t worry Jay, we’ve got your back.

Decoded by Jay-Z

leave a comment »

Let’s be honest, it was only a matter of time before Jay-Z/Hova/Shawn Carter/Jigga wrote an autobiography. And, in true hip hop form, to promote Decoded, Jay planned the Rosé, Rolex and Rolls Royce of viral marketing campaigns. Jay-Z, Droga5, and Bing turned what could have been a typical campaign into an interactive art project and scavenger hunt by reproducing pages of the book in areas referred to in the book. For example, if Times Square was mentioned, the page in question would be plastered on billboards in the Square. Creative, no? Below are some shots from the campaign, you can find the rest of them here. Want your own copy of “Decoded”? It’s available here.

Music Monday: Dr. Dre ft Jay-Z – Under Pressure

leave a comment »

A rough cut of a new Dr. Dre  track was leaked back in April and fooled many into believing it was the final version. In June, “Under Pressure”, featuring Jay-Z,  is making the rounds through the blogs once again as Dr. Dre himself has come out and said it was only a rough cut. While it’s certainly catchy, what is obviously missing is an identifiable hook, which, as we learned in MUS 505 – Popular Culture and Music, is the money maker.  His album “Detox” is scheduled for release this fall, but it just wouldn’t be hip hop without leaks and delays, so don’t hold your breath.  If one thing’s for sure, “Under Pressure” is no “Forgot about Dre”.

This version may be sped up a bit but it was really hard to find a working clip on Youtube. Enjoy!

It’s a slow news day over here at GFB, so here’s a photo collection of my guilty pleasure Taylor Swift and an article.

I’m sorry.
