I Love NYC

with one comment

When thinking about New York City, it’s hard to even imagine not liking the city. There must be at least one aspect of the Big Apple that everyone has had a moment with. Central Park, West Village shopping, Washington Square Park buskers, late night eats, biking Brooklyn – there are too many options not to enjoy some part of it. I have an even better reason to LOVE this city now; my best friend, of essentially 20 years, now calls everyone’s favourite metropolis, home.

This Top Shop skater skirt has become a staple piece in my wardrobe. The flouncy shape may be one of the most flattering for the general population – the cinched waist and flared body really does something! Again, there is something about that skirt + t-shirt combo that I cannot resist.

I’m sure I’ll be seeing you NYC.

Decoded by Jay-Z

leave a comment »

Let’s be honest, it was only a matter of time before Jay-Z/Hova/Shawn Carter/Jigga wrote an autobiography. And, in true hip hop form, to promote Decoded, Jay planned the Rosé, Rolex and Rolls Royce of viral marketing campaigns. Jay-Z, Droga5, and Bing turned what could have been a typical campaign into an interactive art project and scavenger hunt by reproducing pages of the book in areas referred to in the book. For example, if Times Square was mentioned, the page in question would be plastered on billboards in the Square. Creative, no? Below are some shots from the campaign, you can find the rest of them here. Want your own copy of “Decoded”? It’s available here.

..urban renewal

with 2 comments

it has been announced that the old Metro Theatre in NY at 2626 Broadway will soon be transformed into perhaps a less melodramatic spot, but all the same creative in a new light. clothing store Urban Outfitters is said to begin construction in the 15,000 square-foot 3 1/2 storey building. the store will salvage the original theatre front in order to keep the spirit of this New York City landmark.obviously not all companies have suffered due to this modern-day recession and slumped holiday sales, as Urban has signed a 20-year lease starting at $1 million a year with a 12% increase every five years.i guess my love and likely yours for this store’s always current and fresh style, whether it be hipster or boho, is what allows the company to consistently grow no matter what is happening outside this urban empire.-M

p.s. i currently have my eye on a summertime onesie, i don’t know about you.
