Watercolour Mini
With the weather playing tricks on us, it’s hard to know when your next summer-like day will be, so it’s best to take advantage of the sunshine, even if some people continue to sport wool and fur-linen hooded jackets. On a particularly hot day, I paired a new Forever 21 by Rory Beca pink watercolour mini with a tied Joe Fresh blouse. It was all very silky and very simple for a day that seemed like July.

Cottage Chic Chap
Dear boys…men (whatever), you have the heart of a lumberjack (outdoorsman), but the big city area code. Well the cottage chic look, as requested, is the perfect style to get you through the winter.

For tops focus on thick knits. For me, a cowichan is almost the definition of the cottage sweater. Plaid is obviously a given, flannel for a cozier feel, or cotton for a sleeker look. Since demin was and is so popular this year I figure why not throw this into the cottage chic look too!?

Although you might imagine a cottage pant as a beat up cargo, I’m gonna go ahead and say that a slim-fit khaki or slightly worn out cord is much more appropriate for you city slickers trying to give off the ruffing-it style. Go for a leather boot that resembles more of a desert boot, or an authentic hiking boot. Take a chance with the shoes, I mean if Sorels came back in style, pretty much anything is worth a try.

Having lived in Whistler, I can’t say anything about outerwear accessories, without saying purchase a slouchy toque. For a warmer more up-North style, go for the fur-lined hat, ear-flaps and all. Scarves are sometimes a touchy subject with boys. Let’s just say it looks way better than a neck warmer or balaclava AND it’s +5 points in any girl’s book. Of course the typical go-to for a cottage style is a parka, but if you want to try out this season’s must have jacket, go for a leather/shearling.

news from the nation’s capital
…and I’m not talking about G20 protests. This news is a little old, but still worth the mention in case you didn’t know!

The time has finally come for the nation’s capital to get it’s very own Urban Outfitters!! Since this is my hometown, I’m pretty excited that as of October 2010 my trips home can be filled with even more Urban shopping trips. I guess Urban was just waiting for Ottawa to meet the required hipster per capita quota…congratulations Ottawa on housing multiple hipsters and stepping it up fashion-wise.
Hey hipsters, apply here for a job!

spring uniform
Last Monday it was 15 degrees in Toronto, and this illusion of summer was amazingggg! Here is my spring uniform, decided to test out these thigh-high socks I’ve had since two years ago.

Urban Outfitters says “I do.”

Urban Outfitters will introduce bridal apparel online in 2011…because even hipsters get married (apparently). Based on retail strategy Urban is making this move at the perfect time. With hipsters entering their middle and late 20s, this crowd is hooking up and getting hitched!
___
The line will later move in-store, and the gowns will be designed by Anthropologie’s team and other guest designers. Prices will vary from $1000 to $5000. Who knows, maybe soon enough we’ll see Vera Wang for UO, but don’t get your hopes up. Glen Senk (CEO) also plans to offer bridesmaids’ dresses, jewelry, shoes and invitations. The company would like to offer a bridal community including travel services, invitations, wedding planning and flowers. Looks like Senk has been watching just as much of Say Yes to the Dress as I have. Expect vintage looks and wedding soundtracks full of MGMT, Empire the Sun, RJD2, and Vampire Weekend.

harriet the spy

every good spy needs a gorgeous trench! structured, but oh so casual…and although Harriet may have had it a little wrong with her tent-sized yellow rain coat, we appreciate her effort. we think these trenches are much more appropriate for sneaking around town, whether you’re strolling in the rain, shopping on a spring day, or exploring the city with a venti americano in hand!
though we would love to have an original Burberry, our student (soon to be graduates) budget is limiting, so instead i think these alternatives are appropriate substitutes. i’m thinking the navy Club Monaco trench, although i may have to stick to the classic look and go beige.

keep this in mind when buying your trench: “a good spy never gets caught!”

fashion friday: sunglasses

Funky (heartshaped) or classic, (wayfarer) sunglasses perfect for:
-Early mornings
-Late nights
-Avoiding eye contact with strangers
-Avoiding eye contact in general
A little birdie told me that the Oakley Frogskins are no longer available but a quick trip to the Oakley website proves otherwise. :) Happy Friday.

shopping for boys
since i’m not leaving my house this aft, because i’m doing homework, i decided to do some more online shopping. this time it’s for the boys. today we went to Urban Outfitters, and this little purchase will only cost you $398 (and i say only, because it’s much cheaper than my “J-Crew purchase”).

but honestly, if you are the slightest bit hipster head over to Urban. i’m not sure if this is weird, but i’d like to wear all these things myself, especially the boots.
enjoy!

my first (and maybe only) OUTFIT post! i’m not sure how I feel about this, because i’m really not sure that i’m fashionable enough for all of you, but here you go! took me about an hour to edit this on online photoshop, which may be another reason i never do it again…

i’m here
Spike Jonze is going back to his advertising roots with his short film I’m Here. Described as a “robot love story”, the film is premiering at Sundance and is in collaboration with Absolut Vodka. It looks decidedly cute, if not a little weird. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think robots drink liquids, let alone vodka, so it will be interesting to see if Absolut is going to go for a product placement, or just ride the coattails of Jonze by having the brand attached to the film.
While all the hipsters that ran out to see Where the While Things Are anticipating the premier of I’m Here, Urban Outfitters is probably having weekly meetings brainstorming idea on how they can get in on Jonze’s latest project. Robot graphic tees, anyone?
I now leave you with my favourite Spike Jonze music video…
